Serena Williams

Serena Williams has a hand in several women’s health companies through her venture capital fund, Serena Ventures. The company has backed the weight loss platform Noom, the digital platform for maternal health Mahmee, women’s healthcare product maker Lola, core and pelvic floor care company Every Mother, menopause supplement company Wile, at-home cervical cancer screening company Teal Health, and virtual couples therapy platform Ours. 

Williams has repeatedly spoken out about the importance of investing in women’s health, including when she joined forces with Mahmee. “I am incredibly excited to invest and partner with Mahmee, a company that personifies my firm’s investment philosophy,” she said in a statement at the time, per Forbes. “Given the bleak data surrounding maternal death and injury rates, I believe that it is absolutely critical right now to invest in solutions that help protect the lives of moms and babies.”

Oprah Winfrey

Oprah Winfrey is an investor in Maven Clinic, which is the largest virtual clinic for women’s and family health. She also owns a stake in WW (formerly WeightWatchers), which has several programs designed to help women. “Ritual is important for stabilizing change in your life,” Winfrey said of WW. “WW and I both know how important it is to have regular support and to have other people who believe as you do, inspire you, and help you make changes. These events are our gathering place.”

Sophia Bush

One Tree Hill and Chicago PD star Sophia Bush has worked alongside her business partner, Nia Linder Batts, to invest in several women-owned businesses. Her latest venture is Oya FemTech Apparel, a company that makes soft clothes that are designed to repel odors and lower the risk of irritation. “Not only is [founder Mitchella Gilbert] an innovator, but they’re making sure the newest and best tech will always meet their rigorous standards, perusing a utility patent, which will protect both the product’s integrity and the consumers who wear it as the company grows,” Sophia wrote on Instagram. These leggings have a breathable, replaceable pad, along with panels that promote ventilation around the inner thigh. “They are solving a problem that many established brands have continued to overlook,” Bush said. 

Bush also announced on Instagram in August that she’s “so proud” to invest in Aunt Flow, a company that offers free period products. “They are replacing archaic, coin-operated tampon dispensers with patented free-vend period product dispensers that are rust-resistant, hold five times the product, and only take 30 seconds to reload,” Bush wrote on Instagram. The dispensers “allow schools and businesses to offer 100% organic cotton tampons and pads for free,” she added.

Gwyneth Paltrow

Gwyneth Paltrow is known for her website Goop, which regularly shares information on alternative feminine care treatments. She’s invested in a slew of companies that focus on women’s health, including the fertility clinic KindBody, mental health platform Real, clean medication company Genexa, and menopause solution brand Evernow. 

“I am honored to join Kindbody on their mission to create global access to high-quality women’s health and fertility care,” Paltrow said in 2021. “I believe Kindbody’s dedication to reducing barriers to care, championing diversity, and improving the patient experience will propel essential change in the health care system.”

Jennifer Lopez

JLo has a few investments in women’s health. She backs Hims & Hers, the telehealth company that sells prescription and over-the-counter drugs online, as well as Sarva, which is a yoga and wellness startup. ““We’re always focused on providing for people who grew up the way we did,” Lopez told People of her partnership with Hims & Hers, alongside her then-fiance Alex Rodriguez. “We saw it as a company that was offering a modern approach to health and wellness in a way that was responsible and accessible. It’s so great to be a part of.” Lopez also launched Limitless Labs, which works to raise funds for Latina entrepreneurs.

Maria Sharapova

Former tennis star Maria Sharapova’s investment in women’s health largely revolves around fitness. She’s an investor in both home gym Tonal and beauty and wellness brand Therabody, which makes the popular Theragun. 

“The world of fitness is so personal and individual. That’s what Tonal is catered to do,” Sharapova told Fortune. “It does this through the technology that’s made for you, not just made for all your friends. I think that’s what is so impressive.”

Halle Berry

Oscar-winning actress Halle Berry has an equity stake in probiotic company Pendulum Therapeutics, and also serves as an advisor to the brand. “After taking the product for a year and a half, I’m just all around better and feel healthier,” Berry told Harper’s Bazaar earlier this year. “Ultimately, Pendulum let me come on board and invest, and came up with the idea that I could be the chief communications officer and get this message out to other people to help them understand how to become healthier and lead better lives.”

Gabrielle Union

Bring It On alum Gabrielle Union has invested in KindBody, which is a tech-enabled fertility clinic. Union shared during an appearance on the podcast We Can Do Hard Things that her investment was inspired by her fertility journey. 

“If someone loves your love, they want that love to spread and to create more children and so the questions are nonstop,” she said. “When you are someone that is known or in the spotlight, it’s literally millions of people who are invested in you not getting your period and you creating this life, and being able to hold this life, and doing all the right things to show that you deserve this life, and that you are worthy of this life, and when it doesn’t happen, it feels like this public flogging.”

Cindy Crawford

Supermodel Cindy Crawford is an investor in Prenuvo, a company that offers full-body MRI scans to help screen for cancer and other illnesses. Crawford hasn’t spoken publicly about her investment, but the company has been getting plenty of buzz. It was also featured on a recent episode of The Kardashians, after Kris Jenner underwent a scan and was told she had the health of a 40-year-old.

Megan Rapinoe

Soccer star Megan Rapinoe is an investor in the mental health platform Real. “In my personal financial portfolio, my financial advisor and firm have a huge commitment to impact investing,” Rapinoe told Forbes. “Of course, we’re trying to make money and to be successful, but we also want something that’s going to be disruptive and provide a new way forward. I don’t think we can just continue to do the same things.”

Mindy Kaling

Along with Winfrey, Mindy Kaling is an investor in virtual clinic Maven. She also backs the skincare brand Lion Pose. “We did a Zoom and they were such A students,” Kaling told People of Lion Pose’s founders. “They had this great vision and this product that they loved and they also had, which was nice given what my job is, this passion for more representation in clinical healthcare and skincare space. But I also had to test the products because just liking them isn’t enough.”

Kaling said she was hooked after trying the brand’s Unspotted 4X Dark Spot + Hyperpigmentation AHA Serum. “I started to notice results in two weeks and to me, that was very fast. I just love it,” she said. 

Reese Witherspoon

Witherspoon, along with Kaling and Winfrey, is a backer for the Maven clinic. It’s currently valued at $1.35 billion, according to Fast Company. In 2021, Witherspoon tweeted about the impact the company is having, writing, “Check out the incredible work that @mavenclinic is doing in the female / maternal health space. Game changers in modern healthcare.”
