“The way couples hold hands is directly connected to the intensity of the emotional connection between them,” explains Donaldson. If you look closely at the way Kaley and Tom are holding onto each other, you’ll notice that their wrists are crossed and their fingers are interlaced. This “reveals that there is a reciprocal level of high intimacy between them,” says Donaldson. They’re comfortable with one another, which allows them to maximize their skin-to-skin contact, she adds.

Moreover, notice how Kaley’s wrist is crossed in front. This can read as her being “the dominant one in the relationship and claiming her territory—Tom—in that moment,” Donaldson says.
